Welding Inspector – Salt Lake City, Utah

About the role

You will be responsible for inspecting, testing, and verifying welded car bodies to ensure they meet quality standards and comply with engineered drawings, specifications, and industry documentation. In cooperation with Welding Engineering, you will support welding processes in production and monitor welding activities. The position also includes performing non‑destructive testing and documentation (VT, PT) as required by material testing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform Hold Point and In‑Process inspections of welded joints.
• Ensure all inspection documents are created, completed, closed, and filed properly.
• Coordinate and plan all inspections in conjunction with the production team lead and resident inspectors.
• Maintain and review all quality‑control inspection documentation.
• Support production team leaders in recording and resolving non‑conformities (BMs) and identifying non‑conforming product.
• Stop the production process if a non‑conformity affecting the quality of the finished product is detected.
• Perform non‑destructive testing as required.
• Carry out and document the weighing of finished car bodies.
• Perform and document dimensional inspection of components, sub‑components, and the final product.
• Carry out and document in‑process measurements and settings in accordance with the production schedule.
• Verify correctness of documentation for in‑process dimensional checks.
• Perform and document visual testing based upon requirements (dye‑penetrant certification is preferred).
• Ensure correct use of measuring instruments, preserve their condition, and monitor calibration status.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (or IWE) required.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Basic metallurgy knowledge.
• Solid understanding of welding standards.
• Print reading and measurement literacy.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
