About the role
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) needed for a manufacturing facility specializing in structural racking systems. This role involves continuous inspection and documentation of manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 standards and company quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Hands-on oversight of processes including cutting, punching, shearing, stamping, notching, welding, and painting (GMAW Spray Transfer process).
- Conduct daily floor and weld inspections, including part fit-up, visual inspection, and review of WPSs & PQRs.
- Ensure compliance with welding credentials, documentation, and AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code requirements.
- Perform welder certification testing per AWS D1.1, including minor destructive testing.
- Prepare and maintain Welder Qualification Records (WQRs), PQRs, WPSs, and inspection records.
- Monitor welder qualifications and maintain controlled processes, procedures, and specifications.
- Verify welding equipment functionality and documentation on a daily basis.
- Interpret fabrication drawings and apply them to inspection activities.
- Support and maintain the established Quality Assurance Manual.
- Travel occasionally by car or plane as required.
Requirements
- AWS CWI or AWI certification (required; submit certification number with application).
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code.
- Minimum 5 years of welding experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary preferred).
- Background in manufacturing and welding processes preferred.
- Strong documentation, inspection, and quality assurance skills.
- Computer skills, including MS Office tools.
- Knowledge of inspection tools and equipment.
- Clean driving record (must be willing to sign waiver for verification).
- Strong organizational skills; self-driven and motivated.
- Willingness to travel as needed and ability to maintain a personal credit card for expenses.
Schedule
4-day work week (10 hours per day). Two shift options available:
- First Shift: 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Monday–Thursday)
- Second Shift: 4:30 PM – 3:00 AM (Monday–Thursday)
