Welding Engineer - PWS

About the role

Miller Electric (Precision Welding Solutions) is seeking a skilled Welding Engineer to join a highly collaborative team that develops cutting‑edge welding solutions for general manufacturing, fabrication, MRO, and personal end users. The role focuses on new product development and sustaining initiatives, using tools such as picoscope, microscope, high‑speed camera, and design‑of‑experiment software.

Responsibilities

• Product Development and Optimization: Develop and optimize welding arcs for Laser, GMAW, GMAW‑P, GTAW, and SMAW processes; evaluate arc performance for commercial welding power supplies; create welding‑related solutions for customer challenges; utilize advanced measurement and analysis tools.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with production, engineering, customer service, marketing, and leadership throughout new product development and sustaining initiatives; share knowledge to guide the team to success; support team members with advanced customer applications and challenges.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of GTAW and SMAW welding processes, techniques, and settings; additional knowledge of GMAW, GMAW‑P, and laser preferred.
• Basic understanding of arc physics, metallurgy, and how variables impact arc performance and weldment quality.
• Excellent written, verbal, and organizational communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Exceptional problem‑solving, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
• Self‑starter capable of learning quickly, working independently with minimal supervision, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated positive attitude, high motivation, and strong personal accountability.
• Willingness to invest in personal and professional development with potential for growth within the organization.
• Flexibility to travel up to 25% of the time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or a related engineering discipline (required).
• Demonstrated knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and manufacturing through industry experience, research, academic projects, or professional certifications (required).
• Minimum of 1+ years welding engineering experience preferred, including experience in manufacturing.
