About the Role

The Structures Engineer III plans, develops, coordinates, and directs complex major engineering projects using established policies, procedures, and best practices. This position prepares engineering data in accordance with manufacturer specifications, STCs, FAA regulations, Duncan Aviation approved procedures, industry practices, and customer expectations. The role involves making independent engineering decisions based on data, experience, and mathematical analysis, while providing technical assistance to team members and supporting aircraft technical reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Makes engineering decisions by defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions based on analysis, experience, and FAA regulations (e.g., Advisory Circulars, Type Certificate Data Sheets, Maintenance Manuals, Supplemental Type Certificates).
  • Interprets instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Applies advanced mathematical concepts to engineering solutions.
  • Supports project requirements by providing complete and accurate engineering data (drawings, test plans, electrical load analysis, structural analysis, reports, parts lists) that meets regulatory requirements and project timelines.
  • Utilizes the company’s design and engineering database for product design.
  • Solves problems with limited information and assists less experienced staff to increase team skill levels.
  • Reviews service plans and sales proposals for engineering requirements, ensuring accuracy in tasks and hours.
  • Supports senior engineers by researching technical data, design recommendations, and estimated engineering hours for customer support and sales proposals.
  • Designs, reviews, and approves avionics equipment installations and/or interior assemblies using knowledge of company capabilities and limitations.
  • Implements Design for Manufacturability (DFM) techniques.
  • Instructs production technicians on construction/installation methods per engineering processes, FAA regulations, and customer expectations.
  • Assists production teams with system turn-on, troubleshooting, and testing.
  • Provides technical assistance to sales, project managers, and production teams for sales activities and continuous improvement projects.
  • Participates in establishing best practices and preferred processes.
  • Works to continually improve design and engineering skills.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or CATIA.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business and general aviation aircraft modifications and/or related engineering experience.
  • Previous experience working with the FAA preferred.

Job Specifics

Regularly scheduled attendance with occasional travel required. The role involves reading small print, repetitive motion, and tolerating sitting for extended periods.
