Welder, Weekend Shift

About the Role

A Fitter/Welder will work individually or as part of a small team to produce sheet metal weldments that meet the dimensional specifications of mechanical engineered drawings. The role involves determining weld locations, sizes, and lengths from drawings, ensuring tolerances are met, and performing cosmetic finishing such as grinding and buffing.

Responsibilities

  • MIG weld mild steel and stainless steel
  • Perform basic fitting and adjust machinery according to department manuals
  • Remove material using grinding processes
  • Read and interpret drawings, inspect parts for basic dimensions, and perform layouts (positioning and alignment)
  • Inspect parts against complex engineered drawings
  • Spray transfer MIG weld and examine weld beads for acceptable attributes
  • Identify types of copper, stainless grades, and other materials
  • Knowledge of flux core and shielded wire
  • Cope and fit components
  • Execute hot work outside of the department as required
  • Finish grind and surface finishing based on departmental requirements
  • Repair improper welds and use fixtures relevant to the area of responsibility
  • Tack weld and stud weld
  • Fine-tune voltage and square parts
  • Torch cut and arc metal gouge
  • Apply basic product knowledge to understand how work ties into the larger picture
  • Interpret AWS charts, steel tables, and welding symbols
  • Use basic tools (tape measure, squares, clamps, fillet gauge, angle finder, etc.)
  • Convert decimals to fractions and utilize conversion charts
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and work in a team environment
  • Adhere to Lock Out Tag Out procedures, company operating procedures, safety rules, and ISO requirements

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience
  • Basic command of the English language (written and verbal)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Working Environment

All work is performed in a shop environment with constant exposure to shop elements. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required for this role. The company promotes safe working conditions, provides safety equipment, and enforces adherence to safety practices and procedures.
