Welder Multi-Craft - Field Position , Morristown, TN

About the role

At Cherokee Millwright, we are a multi-craft company that focuses on the needs of our customers by providing multi-trades personnel to meet the customer’s unique job requests. The focus of this position will be to plan, lay-out, weld, install and repair all types of metal components according to blueprints, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Lay out pieces to be assembled according to blueprints, schematics or work orders.
• Use manual, semi-automatic, and automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.
• Position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
• Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
• Perform minor maintenance to equipment.
• Observe all standard safety practices and maintain and complete all required records.
• Participate in safety committees or initiatives as required.
• Perform additional skills in other crafts as needed to meet customer requirements.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass structural and 6G pipe weld test.
• High School diploma or GED equivalent; and two or more years of experience with industrial and commercial applications.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to operate the following equipment: hydraulic press brake, hydraulic shear, Vulcan plasma cutting table, Pittsburg machine, TDC machine, roller machine (three types), hand break, bead roller machine, bead forming machine, stomp shear, Magna bend, pin spot machine, drill press, band saw, plasma torch, track torch, MIG and TIG welders, overhead crane, and forklift.

Physical Demands

• The employee is regularly required to stand.
• The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
• The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Occasional exposure to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
