Welder (Mine)

Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. The mine has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

About the role

The position involves the effective day-to-day execution of maintenance and repair of heavy-duty mobile equipment, identifying reliability issues, and managing reporting. You will also mentor less experienced maintenance technicians and teach maintenance best practices. Demonstrating commitment to safety and Capstone's Values in Action is essential.

Responsibilities

• Repair metal structures
• Fabrication & maintenance of structural supports
• Layout, fit and fabricate metal components to assemble needed products such as pressure vessels
• Maintenance of fabricated systems
• Analyze engineered drawings and specifications to welding operations where procedural information is unavailable
• Component & system identification
• Aid in the development of safe practices and advanced welding procedures
• Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative

Requirements

• Pass welding tests 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, & 5G (Beveled 3/8" Coupon Test Flat, Horizontal, Vertical & Overhead)
• Basic Hydraulics
• Basic Pneumatics
• Knowledge of welding technique, metallurgy, & engineering requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, including walking up and down stairs and across uneven surfaces
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
• Ability to work in both hot and cold environments with high humidity
• Ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat, occasionally in confined spaces
• Ability to speak, comprehend, read and write in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

• Advanced GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding)
• Advanced GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
• Advanced FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)
• Advanced Knowledge of Welding Techniques
• Varying Advanced Knowledge in Metal Fabrication
• Advanced Knowledge in Repairs of Metal Structures
• Mobile crane experience
• Overhead crane experience
• Load securement experience
• Aerial work platform experience

Schedule

We offer a 7-on, 7-off schedule that consists of one week of alternating 12-hour day and nights shifts followed by one week off, offering a great work-life balance with ample time for rest and personal activities.

Qualifications
