The overall function of this position is responsible for welding, fabrication, and repairs on all state owned buildings, state-owned bridges, equipment and drainage structures in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, and St. Charles Parishes. Incumbent is independently performing more complex and sophisticated welding procedures as a result of the complexity of new structures and equipment. Minimum Qualifications
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
- Three years of experience or training in the welding trade; OR
- Completion of a Technical Diploma or Associate of Applied Science welding program from a Louisiana Technical or Community College or equivalent program from other institutions plus one year of experience or training in the welding trade.
Job Duties
- Welds, fabricates, modifies and designs on trucks and trailers, tractors and mowers.
- Paints and blasts units and equipment, bridge and guardrails.
- Welds and fabricates parts for pontoon bridges.
- Lays out, cuts and fits material for welding.
- Brazes various ferrous and non-ferrous metals including quality surfaces to all metal and welds when needed.
- Welds aluminum.
- Fabricate hardware on trucks to transports equipment.
- Uses grinding equipment to provide quality surfaces to all metals.
