About the role

The Welder position at Tenneco involves applying appropriate welding processes to meet specifications, inspecting and repairing welds as needed to support the production and assembly of exhaust pipe components. The role also entails participating in cell-level BOS meetings and performing as an active team member within the cell.

Responsibilities

  • Produce welds on thin metals and identify those that meet or exceed specification minimums, as well as those that are discrepant.
  • Handle materials and tools, set up appropriate weld processes, inspect all welds and products to ensure they meet specifications, and dispose of non-conforming products as necessary. Notify the appropriate authority if more than three consecutive products are defective.
  • Properly store all product on racks, containers, or other designated storage.
  • Perform as a team member of a cellular operating group, requiring the ability to learn, perform, and rotate to other workstations within the cell.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, quantity, performance, and safety standards as outlined in plant policies, handbooks, and work instructions.
  • Conduct safety checks and perform preventative maintenance on welding equipment to maintain good, safe working conditions and complete daily forms.
  • Apply appropriate welding processes to weld and repair welds on parts according to specifications.
  • Assist other employees in the cell group when welding is not required.
  • Clean the welding station and maintain neatness in surrounding work areas.
  • Participate in 5S advancements and assist in the implementation of Lean Principles.
  • Ability to weld on any line and train temporary and/or new welders.

Qualifications

  • Completed Tenneco Welding Certification program within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge and skills of two welding processes (Gas Metal Arc, Gas Tungsten Arc) preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 1 year in manufacturing environment, 3 plus years of Automotive experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, directions, charts, forms, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to correctly use and read various gauges.
  • Ability to work well with other employees in a team concept.

Physical Demands

  • Extensive standing, walking, moderate bending, stooping, torso twisting, constant hand and arm motion.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme hot temperatures.
  • Good visual ability.
  • Ability to sit frequently for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to move about the plant in both the office and manufacturing areas.
