About the role
General Dynamics NASSCO is a proud member of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit. In addition to ship construction, our capabilities include advanced ship repair, conversion, and maintenance for both commercial and national defense assets. We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Weld Shop, located in Norfolk, Virginia, for 4 Welders J1 - J4.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work hours from 0600 to 1445 with a 45-minute lunch. As a Structure Welder Journeyperson 4 (Welder), the candidate should have knowledge of welding on different types of base metals (HY-80 & HY-100), know the different wire and gas combinations, and be proficient in using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes.
Requirements
- Ability to weld steel, aluminum, copper nickel, and stainless steel
- Ability to read weld gauges
- Ability to use hand tools
- Knowledge of standard item 1689 and the guidelines of 5 S
- Quality of weld should be acceptable for N.D.T.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have some guidance from supervision and should be able to perform the responsibilities listed above.
