Location: Salem, VA (24153). This is a permanent, full-time, onsite position.

This role requires meeting weld specifications for ASME code, including 100% penetrated welds with x-ray quality. You will support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives companywide. On-call service is required.

Responsibilities

• Utilize plasma, gas, or electric arc to weld metallic and composite materials.
• Heat and dissolve metal parts to obtain molten substance for welding or extrusion.
• Oversee installation of tank linings, valves, lead pipes, and flooring.
• Conduct x-ray, hydrostatic, and tolerance tests to verify weld quality and conformance to specifications.
• Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions.
• Use powersaws, chipping knives, and hand shears to cut, bevel, and contour metal workpieces.
• Repair structures by dismantling, reshaping, and reassembling metal components using cutting torches and handtools.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and international building codes and legal requirements.
• Monitor work equipment to ensure usage within optimum temperature to avoid overheating or expansion.
• Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning with chemical solutions and wire brushes to remove impurities such as scale, rust, grease, and moisture.
• Design patterns and models for welding projects using blueprint specifications.
• Direct electrodes on or across metal workpieces to melt, bend, or straighten them.
• Mount and secure workpieces on production equipment using cranes, hoists, or banding machines.
• Conduct estimates to determine the amount and cost of materials required for construction.
• Mix and apply protective or decorative coats on finished products.
• Perform other duties, reporting, special assignments, or projects as needed.

Requirements

• Secondary education, high school diploma, or on-the-job training.
• Less than 3 years of professional experience required.
• Knowledge of metrology and ability to read blueprints, including welding symbols.
• Understanding of safety concepts for process equipment.
• Skills in TIG, MIG/MAG welding, submerged arc, and plasma machine operation.
• Proficiency with metrology instruments and performing weld technical controls.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Skills in hoisting and operating lifting equipment.
