The new facility in Murfreesboro, Tennessee is hiring Welders I to build purpose-built products—refuse trucks, front-discharge mixer trucks, fire apparatus, Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting trucks, service vehicles, and command trucks—designed to perform under the toughest conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret blueprints, job cards, bill of materials, and routing sheets for customized orders
  • Set up and assemble various components for welding
  • Weld out of position
  • Set up machine for welding
  • Weld aluminum components using bench, MIG, and/or TIG processes
  • Drill and grind welds
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to complete tasks
  • Apply measurements to parts and equipment
  • Use and operate hand and power tools
  • Lift light and/or heavy parts on and off carts, floors, shelves, etc.
  • Operate a crane/hoist for heavy lifting
  • Assist co-workers with heavy lifting of parts
  • Understand differences in parts and tools

Requirements

  • 6 months or more of relevant welding experience OR a High School Diploma or equivalent education
  • Proficient in MIG welding as demonstrated by an on-site weld skills test
  • Ability to stand for the entire shift and tolerate occasional kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Ability to lift and manipulate parts/equipment weighing up to 80 pounds
  • Ability to use both hands for tool operation, carrying parts, and assisting co-workers
  • Ability to maintain balance while walking and standing on potentially slippery surfaces
  • Ability to perform welding/assembling tasks in awkward positions
  • Regular attendance required

Qualifications

  • Welding/Metal Fabrication certificate, technical diploma, or associate degree in a related field
  • Previous experience constructing large weldments
  • Blueprint reading skills

Skills

  • Interpret complex blueprints with multiple variables
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy
  • Read tape measures, safety manuals, work orders, and blueprints effectively
  • Perform measurement and counting tasks
  • Operate and access heavy equipment safely and effectively
  • Remember task sequences and safety constraints
  • Detect heat when welding
  • Hear safety alarms and communicate verbally with co-workers

Schedule

Monday - Thursday, four 10-hour days (6:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
