About the role

Rapid Pump and Meter Service Co. is seeking an experienced and skilled Welder with welding and fabrication experience to join our team in Hauppauge, NY. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of welding processes, metal fabrication, blueprint interpretation, and repair work associated with pumps, motors, piping systems, structural components, and industrial equipment. This position requires a safety-focused individual who takes pride in producing high-quality workmanship while supporting our shop and field service operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG, TIG, Stick, and FluxCore welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, orbital, aluminum, and other metals as required.
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify industrial equipment, piping systems, pump components, skids, bases, brackets, and structural steel.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
  • Measure, cut, grind, fit, and assemble materials to precise specifications.
  • Inspect welds to ensure compliance with quality standards and project requirements.
  • Operate fabrication equipment including saws, grinders, drill presses, ironworkers, plasma cutters, and other shop machinery.
  • Assist with pump, motor, and mechanical equipment repairs when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and welding safety procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanics, technicians, project managers, and supervisors.
  • Participate in field welding and emergency service work as needed.
  • Complete required documentation and work reports accurately and timely.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5–10 years of professional welding and fabrication experience.
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication plans.
  • Strong knowledge of welding codes, techniques, and safety standards.
  • Experience working with industrial equipment, pumps, motors, piping, or mechanical systems.
  • Ability to safely operate fabrication and metalworking equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: AWS Welding Certification(s).
  • Experience in industrial maintenance, pump repair, water/wastewater, or municipal infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with stainless steel fabrication and pipe welding.
  • Forklift and rigging experience.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in shop and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmets, gloves, respirators, and safety footwear.

Schedule

  • Full-time, field-based role
  • Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Overtime and on-call shifts may be required based on customer needs
  • Travel to customer sites required

Pay

$25.00–$30.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
