About the role
Employees in this classification have a basic understanding and competency in welding and grinding operations.
Responsibilities
- Setup, operate, and maintain manual welding, grinding, and/or cutting equipment.
- Understand and work from drawings and/or specifications with proficiency.
- Recognize, setup, and operate hand and power tools common to the industry.
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Monitor welding procedures to avoid warping, shrinking, or otherwise distorting weldments.
- Position and secure work pieces using overhead cranes, hoists, fork lifts, etc.
- Grind to a #4 finish using procedures typically determined by others.
- Setup, operate, and maintain OD pipe polishing equipment.
- Setup, operate, and maintain flat bar polishing equipment.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position.
- Mark and tag material with proper work order number and heat codes as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of metallurgy to minimize distortion while welding.
- Basic knowledge of grinding abrasives and material surface finishes.
- Basic blueprint reading knowledge.
- Basic math skills.
- HS diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Previous Machine Shop experience or related technical training.
- Overtime is a mandatory condition of employment and frequent in this position.
- Ability to work in conditions with dust, fumes, noise, and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures.
- Ability to work around machinery with energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, or other energy.
Skills
- Setup and operation of manual welding, grinding, and cutting equipment.
- Use of hand and power tools common to the industry.
- Operation of overhead cranes, hoists, and fork lifts.
- Operation of OD pipe polishing and flat bar polishing equipment.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, handle, grasp or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lifting, pushing, and pulling material; may require assistance or lifting equipment for materials over 50 pounds.
- Frequent use of stairs and ladders.
Pay
Base Compensation Range: $25.00 - $28.30 per hour with a 10% shift differential. Incentive bonus eligibility up to 12% of gross annual salary based on company performance.
