Welder/Fitter

About the role

The Welfer/Fitter role is a full-time, on-site position based at PennAero’s facility in El Cajon, CA.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions
• Perform measuring and layout operations
• Use hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment to assemble and verify components
• Inspect parts for dimensional accuracy and proper fit
• Identify and report nonconformities
• Collaborate with machinists, quality personnel, and supervisors to resolve issues
• Maintain a clean and safe work area
• Follow safety and quality procedures
• Support production schedules and continuous improvement activities

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
• Strong understanding of tolerances and basic engineering concepts
• Proficiency with measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) and basic layout and fitting techniques for precision components
• Experience using common hand tools and shop equipment for assembly and fitting work
• Able to safely operate tools in a production environment
• Knowledge of basic quality inspection practices, including visual inspection, dimensional checks, and documentation of results
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to identify and communicate fit or assembly issues promptly
• Able to work on-site in El Cajon, CA, stand for extended periods, and handle components and tools as needed for the role
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Able to collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams
• Prior experience in aerospace, precision machining, or related manufacturing environments is preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in fitting, machining, or mechanical trades is a plus
