Key Responsibilities
- Perform GTAW welding with aluminum and other metals in accordance with AWS D1.2, D17.1, or equivalent standards.
- Apply FCAW processes per AWS D1.1 or equivalent standards.
- Knowledgeable in SMAW and GMAW welding processes per AWS D1.1.
- Weld steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel components in various positions following WPS and blueprint specifications.
- Conduct fit-ups and prepare surfaces for welding, ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding specifications; provide feedback to engineering on discrepancies or improvements.
- Perform difficult welding assignments, including prototyping, product development, and support for quote generation.
Equipment & Process Management
- Set up welding machines and support equipment (purge equipment, gas mixers, etc.) per Weld Specification Procedures or as directed.
- Maintain and repair welding and welding support equipment, including preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Operate metalworking machinery, including CNC Waterjet, CNC Press Brakes, band saws, and drill presses.
- Maintain personal and team weld qualification records and assist in maintaining records for lower-level welders.
Design & Fabrication Support
- Design and manufacture specialized jigs, fixtures, and parts to facilitate welding and assembly processes.
- Aid in the creation and maintenance of Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work independently while coordinating with Team Leaders/Supervisors to achieve production objectives.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and subordinates, both verbally and in writing.
- Train and mentor lower-classified employees as required.
- Follow company policies, including health, safety, quality, and material control procedures.
Technical Knowledge & Compliance
- Read and interpret technical operating, service, and repair manuals.
- Follow ASME Y14.100-2004 standards for technical drawings.
- Ensure material traceability and compliance with contractual and company requirements.
- Monitor processes, materials, and surroundings to detect and resolve issues proactively.
Education Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of formal technical training (military or civilian), or equivalent experience.
Experience Requirements
A minimum of twelve years of GTAW welding experience, demonstrated competence in multiple welding processes, standards, and materials, and experience in aluminum production welding and other specialized welding techniques.
