About the role

The Commercial Body Builder plays a key role in the fabrication, assembly, and modification of commercial vehicle bodies, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and build custom commercial vehicle bodies to required specifications.
  • Carry out MIG welding and fabrication activities as part of vehicle body construction.
  • Use guillotines, saws, and other workshop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Perform drilling, cutting, and preparation of materials for assembly.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and production specifications accurately.
  • Measure components and assemblies accurately to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Use hand tools, pistol drills, riveters, and oxy-acetylene equipment safely and effectively.
  • Work to agreed production schedules and quality standards.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with customer and company requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work area.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
  • Report defects, quality issues, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably required to support workshop operations.

Requirements

  • Competent in MIG welding.
  • Experience in fabrication and assembly work within an engineering, manufacturing, or vehicle-building environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Competent in the safe use of hand tools and workshop equipment.
  • Good practical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately to specifications.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within a workshop environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in commercial body building (desirable).
  • City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2, or higher qualification in a relevant engineering, fabrication, or welding discipline (desirable).
  • Experience working within the commercial vehicle industry (desirable).
  • Experience using guillotines, saws, riveters, and oxy-acetylene equipment (desirable).

Working Environment

Manufacturing and fabrication workshop environment.

Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including ear protection, safety glasses, and safety footwear in designated areas.

Schedule

Monday to Thursday, 6.30am to 17.00pm
