Welder/Fabricator

Responsibilities

• Layout, position, align and fit components into welding fixture as instructed.
• Set-up gas-shield, MIG-weld and weld parts to job specifications.
• Remove rough spots from castings, using portable powered grinder and hand file, to finish welded parts.
• Position metal components in assembly, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and rule.
• Lift and position components on assembly table, using electric crane, jacks and shims.
• Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, weld various metal parts together.
• Operate various equipment necessary to fabricate (jigs, fixtures, grinders, tape measure, level, hammer, etc.).
• Receive instructions, prints and work orders for the job. Plan details of working procedure and tools and material requirements.
• Fabricate equipment by cutting, burning and welding various metals, and clean and prepare surfaces to be welded.
• Set up, assemble, and tack weld parts.
• Build up worn or defective surfaces, and keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in heavy-duty machining/manufacturing environment (preferred).
• Ability to read tape measure and blueprints.
• Demonstrated skill level of wire feed (MIG) welding.
• Ability to read and understand work order routings and instructions.
• Ability to layout parts using weld fixtures.
• Excellent critical thinking, communication, problem-solving skills, and interpersonal skills.
