About the role

The Iron Worker (Welder/Fabricator) assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs complex structures such as tanks, supports, buildings, hoppers, and sheet metal patterns, while performing welding on iron, aluminum, and steel.

Responsibilities

• Lays out major and difficult installations from blueprints, sketches, and specifications.
• Uses electric or gas welding equipment to work with steel, iron, or alloys used in the refinery.
• Instructs lower-rated iron workers in proper performance of duties as required.
• Erects and removes handrails, catwalks, building supports, tank supports, and drives steel foundations.
• Bends copper pipe using tools such as shears, drill presses, cutting torches, welding machines, brakes, rollers, steam hammers, taps, wrenches, hoists, and chain blocks.
• Performs fabrication, erection, and removal of ducts, gutter pipes, etc.
• Cuts, bends, and brazes copper pipe; drives and bucks rivets.
• Follows all safety practices and sanitation standards while carrying out supervisor orders.

Requirements

• 3–4 years of relevant work experience.
• High school education or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and schematic drawings.
• Advanced knowledge of welding and fabrication principles for iron and steel.
• Proficiency with iron worker’s tools and shop equipment for erecting, dismantling, and repairing metal equipment.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and overtime as needed (weekend shifts may be mandated).

Pay

Starting hourly rate: $36.38
