Welder/Carmen

About the Role

Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is seeking a Welder/Carmen in Falls City, NE. This position requires the ability to demonstrate skills to pass an AWS D15.1 welding certification test within 30 calendar days of employment using E 71 Ti Flux Core wire and CO₂ for shielding gas. Regular and consistent engagement with Herzog’s culture and its essential behaviors is required, along with regular attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Perform general repairs with guidance from a more skilled carmen/welder.
• Jack cars, disassemble and reassemble truck components in a timely and safe manner.
• Remove and reassemble raft components safely and efficiently.
• Operate an air arc and plasma cutter.
• Maintain efficiency, quality, and a strong focus on safety.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and promote Herzog’s culture.
• Adhere to regular and predictable attendance requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in FCAW process, 2G, 3G, and 4G positions.
• Ability to pass an AWS D15.1 weld test.
• Ability to work at heights up to 16’ and in small, tight spaces.
• Knowledge of safe work practices; prior experience fitting metal is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Work in extreme all-weather conditions, on uneven surfaces, and in a safety-sensitive environment.
• Work in loud noise conditions and around heavy/moving machinery.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds overhead and carry up to 75 pounds for distances up to 10 feet.
• Regularly push/pull with forces up to 50 pounds.
• Regularly use hands for grasping, turning, and holding with forces up to 50 pounds.
• Regularly ascend and descend steps (28 inches high) while carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Regularly ascend and descend a 7-rung ladder while carrying up to 25 pounds.
• Frequently bend, crouch, stand, and sit for extended periods.
• Walk and work on uneven surfaces over great distances while maintaining balance.
• Pass color/vision examinations and hear/distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
• Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
