Welder
About the role
The Repair Field welder will perform duties in a safe manner, to include, but not limited to various barge repairs and welding as determined from inspections. Safety-minded and pushes safety throughout the shop. Ensures all employees are compliant with all safety rules, procedures, and regulations. Qualified welder per VLS welding procedures. Able to set welding machine for proper use and welds in all positions. Fits and fabricates materials for cars or special projects. Completes welding on critical jobs such as tank shell material, draft sill, and tank attachments. Qualified to weld barge inserts or cracks and all welds shall consistently pass USCG regulations. Shows ability to supervise and assist in directing employees and workflow. Continuously completes tasks in the specified amount of time. Assists supervisor and/or leadmen in training and direction of assigned subordinates. Instructs others in welding techniques and safety. Completes welding requirements on critical jobs such as center filler, center sill and draft sill. Examiners welding for bead size and other specifications. Cleans or degreases welding joint or workpiece. Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes. Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces. Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter. Understands and complies with all safety regulations. Has a basic understanding of the USCG regulations, customer requirements and VLS requirements as the pertain to repairs for Barges. Has the ability to travel to all Marine locations.
