About the role

We are seeking a Welder to work out of our Milwaukee Service Center. The Welder I performs equipment setup and all-position welding on a wide range of components used in power generation equipment. Responsibilities include weld repairs, such as crack and erosion remediation, as well as stellite hardfacing of valve components using manual TIG welding and automated PTA welding processes. This role executes welding activities in accordance with applicable code certifications, engineered procedures, and quality standards. Working independently within established guidelines, the Welder I contributes to maintaining a safe work environment while ensuring high standards of quality, workmanship, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding, fitting, and assembly of components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment, tools, fixtures, and heat-treating equipment as required.
  • Prepare materials and components for welding and assembly, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
  • Inspect work during and after fabrication to verify dimensional accuracy and weld quality; identify and report defects or rework needs.
  • Grind, finish, and repair welds as required to meet quality and appearance standards, including stellite welding and repair when assigned.
  • Maintain production and quality standards while following established welding procedures and checklists.
  • Operate overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and fork trucks safely in accordance with training and company policies.
  • Identify and report equipment, material, or process issues and assist with basic equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all safety requirements.

Education And Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • Technical or trade school training in a welding field preferred
  • 0-2 years prior experience in various welding processes
  • 0-2 years prior work experience in a manufacturing / construction setting
  • Able to operate, or learn to operate overhead cranes and fork trucks.
  • Capable of using various measuring tools.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints and weld specifications.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.

Work Environment

This is a manufacturing environment with noise, hot work activities with open flames, grinding, and welding. Employees are required to wear proper PPE including steel toed and puncture resistant shoes, safety glasses with side shield and hearing protection when noise levels are consistently above 85 dB. In addition, welders are required to wear flame retardant apparel and breathing apparatus for some specific tasks. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold and wet, humid conditions.
