Welder

About the role

The Welder position is a non-exempt, highly skilled role within the bargaining unit, based at our Hebron, OH Service Center. This role is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the system, requiring the ability to work independently without supervision and demonstrating a high level of responsibility and follow-through.

Responsibilities

• Install hot tap fittings for commercial and industrial meter and regulator stations.
• Fabricate and weld pipe and fittings according to company procedures, both in the shop and on the job site.
• Fuse plastic pipe and fittings according to company procedures, both in the shop and on the job site.
• Participate in the installation and repair of pipeline systems as part of a crew, as necessary.
• Advise management when parts and materials needed for fabrication and repair of meter sets, regulator stations, and pipeline systems require ordering.
• Act in the capacity of a Job Leader when necessary.
• Maintain and make minor repairs on tools and equipment used in job duties.
• Complete all forms pertaining to maintenance of equipment and plant facilities, such as leak orders, material tickets, maintenance records, service tap cards, and construction reports.
• Perform related work as required and other duties as assigned, provided the work aligns with the employee’s qualifications.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Minimum of five years of related welding experience.
• Successfully passed all test requirements for welding certification as outlined in the company’s welding procedures and maintain annual or other re-certification requirements.
• Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and good driving record; Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints for the fabrication of metering and other gas-related facilities.
• Ability to deal with the general public in a pleasant and courteous manner at all times.
• Ability to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Ability to operate line locators and other tools and equipment used in the construction and repair of the utility system.
• Extensive working knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to this type of work, including familiarity with protective clothing and safety equipment.
• Ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control, or planning of an activity.
• Ability to perform well under stress, particularly in emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations where working speed is a critical aspect of the job.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Regularly required to walk, stand, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, stoop, lift, and use hand tools and power equipment.
• Must maintain sufficient strength to lift heavy objects and work in adverse weather conditions.
• May require announced or unannounced overtime work and the ability to respond to call-outs during non-working hours or emergencies.
• Must successfully complete pre-employment drug and physical testing and is subject to random testing as outlined in the Company’s Drug and Alcohol policy.
