About the role

The Shop Welder position at Peterson is dedicated to performing welding and line-boring processes for repair and custom fabrication projects in the weld shop. This role also involves occasional supervision and may require travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment and observe all safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a manner that promotes a positive relationship.
  • Perform welding and fabrication operations in the weld shop and on customer sites as needed with occasional supervision:
    • Operate welding and cutting equipment.
    • Fabricate custom components.
    • Perform repair welds on components.
    • Modify new and used equipment as directed.
    • Write service reports that accurately document activities.
    • Prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and timecards in an accurate and timely manner to enable other employees to do their job in a timely manner.
    • Perform assigned tasks in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.
    • Follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines and procedures to ensure quality work.
    • Work overtime as needed within labor law guidelines.
    • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.

Qualifications

  • Maintain a tool inventory sufficient to perform assigned tasks.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience in welding/fitting, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Lift truck operator certificate. Certified Welder certificate is preferred.

Competitive wages are offered based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with days and hours worked mirroring the business operations which typically run Monday – Friday. May work more than eight consecutive hours at a time or more than 40 hours in a seven-day work period depending on work demands. Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary.
