Welder
Job Description
Weld various grades of stainless steel, carbon steel and/or aluminum components together to fabricate parts and products using TIG/MIG welding techniques according to layouts, blueprints and/or work orders. Repair damaged plant equipment by welding or bonding broken parts together.
Essential Job Functions
- Safe, knowledgeable operation of high voltage heliarc welders, wire welders and spot welders.
- Interpretation and understanding of blueprints, work orders, layouts and/or schematic diagrams identifying materials to be bonded together and dimensions of desired product.
- Positioning of clamps/fixtures holding together components of fabricated products prior to welding.
- Selecting proper raw materials and adjusting welding equipment to ensure proper and solid bonding of components.
- Safe operation of overhead hoists to move large components in work area.
- Utilizing variety of hand tools including hammers, screwdrivers, chisels, punches, clamps, tape measures, squaring devices, levels and other tools as needed.
- Recording and labeling of completed work orders with attachment of labels routing products to next work area.
- Reading, writing and operating a computer terminal.
- Following written and oral instructions.
- Informing supervisory personnel and/or co-workers of progress and problems realized while performing duties.
Preferred Job Functions
- Inspecting components, materials and/or repaired equipment at each step of the welding process.
- Knowledge of minor equipment maintenance and occasional repair of industrial tools.
- Removing dust, dirt and other hazardous materials from work areas to ensure safe working conditions.
- Occasional pushing and pulling of hand carts and lifts with weights exceeding 150 lbs. with help as needed.
- To communicate verbally with co-workers.
- To crawl inside very small work areas and perform welding duties while lying on back on an occasional basis.
