About the role

As a Welder, you will join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. You will interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine the appropriate welding process and inspect completed welds to ensure structural soundness. Working individually, you will inspect welding work of others to ensure completeness and code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques
• Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine appropriate welding process
• Inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness
• Inspect, repair, install, modify, and perform welds, and maintain welding equipment
• Maintain inventory, tools, supplies, and work area in an organized manner
• May be required to perform troubleshooting and repairs at customer’s site
• Operate both plasma and flame cutting torch
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Knowledge of codes and industry standards applicable to work performed
• Ability to establish clear directions and lay out work in a well-planned and organized manner
• Ability to read and understand floor plans and work orders for projects
• Ability to complete material and labor take-offs from blueprints
• Able to work outside in variable weather conditions
• Ability to use both manual and power tools
• Ability to use mathematics to calculate length, width, depth, etc., as it relates to construction and accuracy of specs and requirements
• Ability to follow written and spoken instructions
• Ability to safely perform tasks
• Maintain current certification through industry standard agency or process
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in the construction industry performing welding and commercial welding in new construction and remodel projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Able to read company’s construction documents and provide guidance to the construction team
• Knowledge of LEAN construction (a plus)

Special Considerations

• Able to lift up to 45 pounds
• Able to carry, bend, stoop, turn, kneel, crawl, climb a ladder, and perform other manual labor activities
