Job Summary

The Welder is responsible for installing and welding natural gas, steel pipelines, and fittings. This position supports the Line team and works with personnel in the field and within the department. The Gas Pipeline Welder is an integral position in the process of construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of natural gas distribution infrastructure. This position performs various welding tasks associated with new construction, repair and maintenance of existing gas utility lines and related systems/equipment such as welding pipe casings, welding vault lids and pipe fittings, welding metal parts together, welding hot gas mains, repairing broken or cracked parts, filling holes, fabricating special parts and apparatus, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Develops welding plan by analyzing print specs and determining appropriate welding techniques.
  • Operate company equipment safely.
  • Maintains safe work environment by following procedures and complying with safety standards.
  • Constructs components by using equipment to cut, clean, and weld after setting-up and measuring assemblies and selecting appropriate method.
  • Verifies welding results by inspecting and testing welds.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, and performing preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 6-12 months of related experience in Construction or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather at times.
  • Ability to meet physical demands.
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to perform these operations using units, weight measurement and volume.
  • Ability to understand units of force, pressure and torque and apply appropriate tooling adjustments for each.
  • Ability to carry out written and verbal instructions furnished.
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
  • Ability to work schedule Monday through Friday 7am - 5:30pm.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a shop and field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
