About the Role

To effectively perform the welding requirements of the school district in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes procedures for the regular, ongoing welding requirements of all school facilities and equipment.
  • Selects welding supplies and maintains an appropriate inventory.
  • Establishes procedures for the safe operation of welding equipment.
  • Fabricates and welds various types of metals used in district buildings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

  • Ability to complete tasks quickly, efficiently, and independently.
  • Ability to follow instructions and follow through on assignments.
  • Self-motivated, able to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment.
  • Ability to react resourcefully to varying conditions.
  • Subject to proficiency testing for welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow work orders.
  • Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rate, ratio, and percent calculations.
  • Reasoning ability: apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Working Conditions

The physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. The employee must regularly lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment involves regular exposure to outside weather conditions, high and precarious places, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually moderate.
