About the role

The Welder is responsible for performing all aspects of welding on inland marine vessels and equipment, including maintenance, fabrication, and structural repairs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity and operational readiness of barges and boats while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Performing all aspects of welding work including preparing and checking equipment
  • Welding steel barges and ships, including stick welding (6010, 7018, and 7024) and flux core welding in all positions using 0.52 wire
  • Safely operating heavy equipment and following all safety policies and procedures
  • Staying compliant with all regulatory bodies and safety rules and policies
  • Carrying out other duties as required and directed by management

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in stick welding
  • ABS certification preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding and application of workplace safety practices
  • Possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Physical Requirements

The Welder must be able to climb ladders and stairs, perform repetitive bending and stooping, squatting, and kneeling, and lift heavy marine equipment and objects up to 75 pounds. The ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions is also required.

The Welder is expected to produce high-quality, structurally sound welds that meet safety and regulatory standards critical to the integrity of marine vessels and equipment. Work must be completed efficiently, with minimal rework or delays, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance.

The welder should demonstrate reliability, adaptability to changing priorities, and a commitment to supporting team goals. Consistent adherence to safety protocols, timely completion of assigned tasks, and professional conduct across all job sites are key measures of success in this role.
