About the role

Responsible for welding, cutting, and brazing metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment, including Pipe welding, Field Welding, Stick (SMAW), TIG (GTAW), and MIG (GMAW).

Responsibilities

  • Plan details of work order procedures; gather required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications.
  • Repair and fabricate various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques.
  • Monitor welding, burning, and fitting processes to prevent overheating or damage from warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces.
  • Maintain, organize, and clean equipment and work area.
  • Notify supervisor of faulty equipment or defective materials.
  • Ensure mechanical equipment conforms to design specifications and complies with operational and safety standards (PSM, MOC, OSHA, Food Safety, CJ Bio America, and State of Iowa regulations).
  • Maintain proper stock of spare parts for facility preservation.
  • Understand manufacturing equipment processes and data sheets for configuration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to TIG weld piping.
  • Thorough understanding of welding machines and tools, including their designs, uses, maintenance, and repair.
  • Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools for producing technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret assignments in various formats.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics related to welding assignments.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of industrial mechanical maintenance.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
  • Critical thinking, multitasking, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Work in production areas with exposures to moving parts, high noise levels, vibrations, varying atmospheric conditions, hot and cold temperatures, chemicals, high-pressure steam, dust, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to weld components in vertical, flat, or overhead positions.
  • Manual dexterity and stability required for precision work.
  • Ability to see details at close range.
  • Traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
  • Frequently walk and stand for extended periods, ascend/descend stairs and ladders, and work at heights using safety fall protection.
  • Operate heavy equipment as necessary.
  • Enter confined spaces when required.
  • Lift and carry up to 75 pounds at a time.
  • Wear a full-face respirator and protective equipment, including minimal facial hair for proper respirator fit (OSHA compliance).
  • Complete annual medical monitoring, including pulmonary function testing.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:30 PM, with flexibility for extended hours, overtime, and on-call as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and welding experience or a technical degree in Industrial Maintenance, Welding, or a related field.
  • TIG welding experience preferred.
