Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural welding using FCAW, SMAW, MIG, or other approved welding processes.
- Interpret welding symbols, shop drawings, WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and project specifications.
- Fit, align, and tack structural steel components prior to final welding.
- Perform multi-pass welds on heavy plate, beams, and structural assemblies.
- Maintain weld quality that meets company, AWS, and project inspection standards.
- Perform grinding, gouging, and weld cleanup as required.
- Work closely with QC inspectors to ensure weld integrity and dimensional accuracy.
- Assist with layout, measuring, and material prep when needed.
- Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Maintain welding equipment and tools in proper working condition.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain proper PPE usage at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3+ years of structural steel welding experience preferred.
- Experience with FCAW and SMAW strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret welding symbols, shop drawings, and WPS documentation.
- Ability to pass or maintain AWS welding certifications preferred.
- Experience welding heavy structural steel, plate, or bridge components highly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in weld quality and craftsmanship.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 55 lbs. and standing for extended periods.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Shop fabrication environment with exposure to loud noise, sparks, heat, and moving equipment.
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting required.
- Occasional outdoor work when staging or moving materials.
- PPE required and provided.
Role Details
- Schedule: Monday – Friday
- Overtime: Available as required
- Employment Type: Full-time, Non-exempt
- Benefits: Eligible after 90 days (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, PTO, and paid holidays)
