Responsibilities

  • Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
  • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
  • Notifies Team Leader when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned including Machine Operation.
  • Performs Quality Control and processes all required documentation.
  • Performs prep work and grinding.
  • Interprets blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to execute work accurately.
  • Welds, cuts, grinds, and finishes metal surfaces to meet specifications and safety standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on experience in welding and fabrication applications: cutting, welding/brazing, drilling, marking/engraving.
  • Welding of dissimilar metals is a plus.
  • Proficient in welding safety, weld filler selection, weld processing parameters, fixturing.
  • Familiarity and experience with metallurgy, weld joint analysis, backing gas applications.
  • Strong cognitive and clear communication skills which emphasize attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to lead projects to completion with minimal oversight, while demonstrating significant problem-solving ability.
  • Able to work independently and unsupervised while prioritizing tasks.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives.
  • The noise level in the work environment is very loud where ear protection is necessary.
