This position performs production within prescribed codes, and according to prescribed procedures, specifications, and drawings. Must complete the Welder Training Program and be able to pass and certify 3G and 4G FCAW welding tests.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment with minimal supervision once assignments are outlined.
• Display a strong sense of ownership for work and support continuous improvement activities in process efficiencies, costs, and effectiveness.
• Read and interpret drawings (including weld symbols) and specifications to determine proper location of attachments, weld size, and configuration.
• Perform basic math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with feet, inches, fractions, and decimals, including converting between fractions and decimals.
• Adjust welding machines to achieve desired results within established welding procedures.
• Manually position pole assembly in pole rollers for welding and use oxy-fuel torch to pre-heat parts according to published welding codes.
• Use MCAW welding process to weld small components or assemblies.
• Wear protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, leather sleeves and/or cape, and welding hood.
• Work in confined areas on the small pole assembly line to weld components.
• Clean welded areas using chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinders, and motorized wire brush.
• Use pneumatic and magnetic drills to drill holes on pole assemblies as required by drawings and specifications.
• Visually inspect work to identify material discrepancies and ensure welds comply with applicable drawings and specifications.
• Use a weld gauge to measure weld size in standard and metric units.
• Read and interpret work orders and daily production schedules.
• Assist fitter in assembling pole assemblies using measuring tape, level, square, and angle finder.
• Use oxy-fuel cutting torch and plasma-arc torch for cutting steel.
• Operate assembly line conveyor system and band saw for cutting tubular shafts according to specifications.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Management.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Basic math skills required.
• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to read blueprints required.
• GMAW or Metal Core Welding experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Stand 100% of scheduled shift.
• Lift, push, pry, and drag heavy materials, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Bend, stoop, crawl under or over, and occasional climbing of stairs/ladders up to 6 or 7 feet.
• Work in an environment with abnormal noise levels requiring hearing protection (ear plugs) at all times.
• Possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively.
• Perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, and handling materials.
• Manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and a safety-minded approach are required.
• Work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures.
