Welder - 1st Shift

Due to the nature of our business and a heavy industrial market, Bodycote deems this position to be safety-sensitive.

Responsibilities

• Setting up and operating Electron Beam (EB) welder according to specifications, including equipment set-up, loading/unloading parts, monitoring the welding process and making adjustments to equipment as necessary
• Reading and interpreting drawings and specification sheets
• Inspecting and checking dimensions using precision gauges and measuring instruments
• Making adjustments to equipment to ensure quality parts are produced
• Completing production and labor reports
• Completing preventive maintenance procedures
• Following customer's specific instructions and specifications
• Measuring, examining, and testing completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers
• Preparing and analyzing the necessary weld specimens to determine weld characteristics and adjust weld settings to achieve desired results with some assistance from QC personnel and the EB Supervisor
• Observing and listening to operating machines or equipment in order to help diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs
• Performing basic machine maintenance as required to maintain part quality and quantity standards
• Performing troubleshooting and technically assisting with tasks as assigned by the EB Supervisor
• The ability to operate all in-house welding equipment
• Maintaining records and documenting in-process inspection data as required
• Working with a variety of materials, including steel, copper, aluminum, titanium, Inconel and other precious metals
• Cleaning and lubricating machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter
• Bridges any irregularity to Leadperson for management
• Promotes safety and good housekeeping practices
• Works in a manner consistent with the EMS
• Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position
• Must work in a manner consistent with the EMS
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism
• This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage

Qualifications

• Education – High school diploma or equivalent
• One year of GTAW or TIG welding experience and some Aerospace industry experience desired but not required
• May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends
• Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operation certification
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate the English language
• Knowledge and hands-on experience of computer applications including Microsoft Office and databases is required
• Must be able to work required shift of 6:00am-2:30pm, Mon-Fri

Physical & Mental Demands

• Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time in an office/industrial environment
• Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions
• Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
• May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
• Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions
• Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
• Able to hear in person and via phone
