Weld Manufacturing Engineer
Primary Duties
- Design Weld Fixtures, CNC machining fixtures, and other misc. fixtures as needed in a safe and cost-effective way.
- Serve as support resource while tooling is built.
- Spend time on the production floor assisting with process improvements, with primary focus on welding procedures and processes.
- Participate in manufacturing lean initiatives and error proofing of tooling.
- Manage multiple projects and tooling designs.
- Work with other designers, ME group, production plants, and shop personnel to improve fixture efficiencies and user-friendly designs that are easy to machine, build & weld in production.
- Design or spec fixtures, carts, tooling, etc. (for both robot and hand welding).
- Complete documentation and PO#’s for items & materials for tooling projects.
- Receive tooling requests, create Tooling numbers, enter information & order parts in our time tracking & parts ordering software.
- May be required to work some Fridays depending on workload; work on the manufacturing floor with the production team is required at times.
- Submit engineering change requests (ECR’s) back to the design team related to fixture design, such as: adding origin points, positioning holes, and dimensioning scheme.
- Follow all Great Plains, OSHA, ISE safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Design Drafting, Mechanical Technology, or similar field; one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Welding and weld process experience strongly preferred;
- One year of experience in tooling design or tooling build preferred;
- Solid modeling experience required, Creo Parametric, Solid Works or equivalent;
- Must be a strong team player with attention to details;
- CNC mill & lathe programming experience a plus;
- Knowledge of press brake and punch press operation preferred;
- Knowledge of selection, machinability & heat treating of tool steels preferred;
- Possess basic computer skills including, but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, Word.

- Previous design work using Metric materials, preferred.

Schedule
The schedule for this full-time position is typically Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
