Responsibilities
- Review welding procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), Welder Qualification Records (WPQR), Non-Destructive Test (NDT) Final Test Reports
- Complete in-process inspection records
- Maintain records of in-process inspection
- Monitor and approve all in-process repairs of non-conforming welds
- Ensure when NDT is required the notation of “passes all tests” is noted on inspection records
- Confirm all welds meet customer and/or AWS acceptance criteria
- Confirm all parts are present and properly oriented on the weldment according to the detailed drawings
- Mark inspection logs with defects found
- Re-inspect any repair or rework that is required after initial inspection
- Monitor welder qualification testing
- Develop visual inspection procedure and provide NDT inspection planning schedules
- Provide training to welders and inspectors IAW Navistar General Standard Repair Procedure (SRP)
- Track all defect data found and report to Quality Assurance Manager
- Verify safety requirements compliance
- Review contract requirements and vendor contract compliance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current or previous Certification as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) IAW AWS QC1 or Canadian welding Bureau (CWB) Level II preferred but not required
- Certificate from a combination welding program, associate degree preferred but not required
- Certified NDT level II in MT/PT preferred but not required
- Able to read and interpret welding symbols as detailed on weld drawings
- Weld inspection experience with Military vehicles desirable but not required
- Proficiency in the use of weld inspection tools including weld gauges, NDT equipment, and micrometers
- 2 years’ experience reviewing and interpreting structural steel plans, working drawings, technical specifications
- Able to clearly communicate welding issues and other needs to team members and supervisors
