Department: Internship Location: Redondo Beach Compensation: $30.00 / hour Description As a Welding Engineering Intern, you will work alongside our Welding, Manufacturing, Design, and Materials Engineering teams to develop, test, and improve welding processes used to build spacecraft and propulsion systems. You will gain hands-on experience supporting weld development, testing, and production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment This internship is 12 weeks long and will run from May/June to August/September of 2027. Responsibilities Support the development, testing, and optimization of welding processes and parameters. Assist with weld development activities across processes including laser beam welding, friction stir welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and orbital tube welding. Work closely with design, manufacturing, tooling, automation, and materials engineers to improve welded designs and manufacturing processes. Assist with preparing test hardware and documenting weld development results Help troubleshoot welding and manufacturing issues and identify root causes Work hands-on alongside welders and engineers in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Minimum Qualifications Completion or working towards a degree in engineering or related fieldAbility to take project ownership and work well in a small teamDemonstrated hands-on experience with basic fabrication tools and processes (electric/pneumatic power tools, tube bending, machining, welding, etc.) Preferred Skills And Experience Hands-on experience with welding or other fabrication processes Familiarity with CAD software and ability to learn new tools Familiarity with welding processes such as GTAW, GMAW, laser welding, friction stir welding, or electron beam welding Self-motivated, driven and high attention to detail Additional Requirements: Willing and able to work on-site in Redondo Beach, CA, for the duration of the internshipThis position may require overtime hours; interns are eligible for overtime pay. Additional Information: Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan. Impulse Space’s spacecraft manufacturing business is subject to U.S. export regulations including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
