Weights and Measures Assistant Director; Field Manager Heavy Duty/High Volume

About the role

The Weights & Measures Assistant Director manages the Division's large capacity scale and high-volume meter inspection programs, overseeing inspections of various scales and meters, hiring, training, and supervising staff, and leading training programs.

Responsibilities

• Oversee inspections of small, medium, and large capacity scales and high-volume meters.
• Hire, train, and supervise Heavy Duty and High-Volume Investigators.
• Lead planning, coordination, and delivery of initial and annual training programs.
• Administer several operational programs, including vehicle and equipment purchasing and maintenance, the registered service program, and procurement of field inspection equipment and supplies.
• Manage the Division's heavy capacity scale plan approval and variance program.

Requirements

• Five (5) years of experience performing analysis, exercising judgment, and providing leadership.
• Experience installing, testing, and using commercial weighing and measuring devices.
• Supervisory or leadership experience, including experience as a supervisor, lead worker, team lead, project lead, or completion of a State of Minnesota leadership program.
• Knowledge of regulatory inspection programs and the ability to interpret and apply statutes, administrative rules, and technical standards.
• Technical knowledge of vehicle and specialized equipment maintenance.
• Computer proficiency, including experience using Microsoft Office applications and working with databases or data management systems.
• Communication skills sufficient to clearly explain complex technical and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Metrology, or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
• An Advanced degree in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Metrology, or a closely related field may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience.
