Weekend Youth Programs Attendant
About the role
The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Weekend Youth Programs Attendant to join our Youth Programs Department. This is a part-time, year-round position working in our drop-in daycare facility with children 6 weeks to 6 years old. The schedule requires availability on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (at minimum), with potential for additional hours based on availability. The Youth Programs Attendant is responsible for providing safe, high-quality care for infants and children. We look for fun, professional, and enthusiastic individuals who love working with children and are ready to shape the next generation of learners and athletes.
At MAC, Youth Programs oversees an array of spaces and popular programs, including camps, classes, and My MAC Playschool. The club emphasizes advancement from within, offering opportunities for professional growth and development. Employees also gain access to the club’s facilities for personal use.
Responsibilities
- Interact positively with staff, parents, children, and guests.
- Maintain an upbeat and friendly behavior.
- Greet parents and children upon arrival and departure.
- Update records of the children as needed.
- Help parents and children separate in a manner that reduces anxiety and eases the child’s transition into care.
- Maintain positive behavior among children; correct misbehavior through redirection or moving the child to a safe, quiet area.
- Conduct activities with children, including games, art or craft projects, storytelling, and imaginary play; monitor individual and group play.
- Tend to children’s toileting, diapering, and hygiene needs as needed, following department procedures.
Requirements
- Experience with children infant to 6 years old is preferred but not required.
- First Aid/CPR certified and Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse Neglect training (or become certified within 90 days of hire).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with a variety of people under different circumstances.
- Ability and skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and members.
- Excellent customer service skills.
