Weekend Shift Material Handler

Job Responsibilities

  • Captures material movement between departments according to routing requirements.
  • Sorts questionable materials in accordance with Quality Control’s directives.
  • Prints and distributes pick tickets and conducts necessary computer transactions.
  • Organizes and relays information regarding the sequence of material retrieval and its movement.
  • Affirms production schedules by ensuring timely and accurate processing and movement of goods.
  • Assists during peak times by operating material handling equipment and performing computer transactions.
  • Maintains effective communication and feedback with management, employees on their shift, and across shifts.
  • Supports supervisors/Area Managers with Continuous Improvement Projects, evaluations of new equipment, determination of training needs, and interviews/hiring.
  • Maintains shop floor control systems and enforces safety protocols.
  • Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows all safety procedures.
  • Identifies and corrects unsafe conditions proactively.
  • Studies systems and procedures for potential improvements and proposes changes to the Materials Manager.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Basic math and computer skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • One year of relevant experience and/or training preferred.
  • Forklift certification is advantageous.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Some physical demands, often requiring the lifting and moving of light to heavy-weight material (average up to 50 lbs/11-27 kgs).
  • Frequent lifting/moving of material.
  • Occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling, and reaching over an 8-12 hour work shift.
  • Ability to operate motorized vehicles over an 8-12 hour work shift.
  • Standing and walking constantly over an 8-12 hour work shift on concrete surfaces.
  • May be exposed to noise levels requiring hearing protection over an 8-12 hour work shift.
