KNWA-TV and KFTA-TV, the NBC and FOX affiliates in Northwest Arkansas, are seeking an experienced journalist to serve as Weekend Anchor. This role requires a hands-on anchor/reporter who leads by example, works collaboratively, and is deeply community-minded.

About the role

As the Weekend Anchor, you will lead by example, working with managers to develop an impactful weekend coverage plan across all platforms while motivating the weekend team. You will produce and anchor newscasts, write stories, approve scripts, and serve as an MMJ Reporter and fill-in anchor during the week. The ideal candidate maintains a friendly, energetic, and authoritative on-air persona, demonstrates urgency—especially during breaking news—and engages actively on social media.

Responsibilities

  • Present news stories and other content for all platforms.
  • Ensure all news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Work with management to enterprise and develop stories daily.
  • Evaluate news leads and tips to develop story ideas.
  • Build a network of sources to stay ahead of competitors.
  • Write and deliver news stories clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrate compelling storytelling using dynamic live shots, stand-ups, creative graphics, and digital/social media platforms.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with management and team members.
  • Assist in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating news programming and other content.
  • Coach and mentor young talent.
  • Act as a field reporter, including live shots, as assigned.
  • Conduct interviews with community leaders, the public, and others.
  • Respond to breaking news and urgent newsroom situations.
  • Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances and community volunteer opportunities.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Shoot and edit video clips as assigned.
  • Write content for the website and other digital platforms.
  • Produce newscasts.
  • Interact with viewers/users on social media sites.
  • Promote teamwork and maintain a cooperative attitude with all station personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Fluency in English with excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to ad lib.
  • Minimum two years of professional on-air anchoring and/or on-camera news reporting experience.
  • Superior on-air presence and excellent news judgment.
  • Expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers, and issues.
  • Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
  • Ability to identify developmental needs and coach or mentor others to improve skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong listening skills to fully understand problems and collaborate on solutions.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.
