About the Role
Responsible for assisting the Survey Party Chief in managing the activities of survey throughout various job locations. Fundamental knowledge of survey instruments or activities required.
Responsibilities
- Complete tasks utilizing survey instruments and equipment per the direction of the Survey Party Chief
- Maintain and properly care for survey instruments and equipment
- Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using hand tools
- Lift, carry, and manually transport construction materials, tools, and supplies
- Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area
- Mix and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools
- Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe
- Perform a variety of routine non-machine tasks such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trench, and assembling sections of pipe
- Perform a variety of machine tasks such as tapping soil, jack hammering, and assisting in the fusing of pipe
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
- Other unlisted duties will be assigned
- When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor
Requirements
- At least one year's experience as a Survey Helper in heavy highway and bridge projects
- Previous experience with survey instruments
- Ability to communicate in English via verbal and written communications
- Move throughout a construction jobsite which includes minor obstacles including climbing ladders and inclines, operating heavy equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures
- Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required
- Three or more years related construction experience preferred
Physical Activity Level
Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
Manual Dexterity
Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers. Ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
Working Conditions
Outdoor exposure to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.). The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
