About the role

The Foreman I manages construction crews, materials, and equipment, ensuring adherence to specifications and project schedules.

Responsibilities

• Create and complete a daily job safety analysis to address safety concerns.
• Oversee crew activities efficiently and supervise their training, development, and work assignments.
• Understand project plans, blueprints, and specifications for assigned duties.
• Manage tools, materials, supplies, and equipment utilization.
• Respond immediately to site production issues.
• Report crew hours accurately on daily timesheets.
• Perform additional duties that enhance company operations.
• Comply with all safety policies and report unsafe activities.
• Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provide leadership through example and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building highways or roads.
• Knowledge of one or two phases of construction (e.g., Structures, Dirt, Pipe, Pavement).
• Less than a high school diploma.
• Valid driver’s license, OSHA 10/30 certification, and First Aid/CPR certification.

Skills

• Language: Ability to read basic words, recognize similarities/differences between words and number series, and communicate in simple sentences.
• Mathematical: Ability to perform arithmetic operations, compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning: Ability to follow detailed written or oral instructions and solve problems with concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Planning/Organizing: Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Working conditions

• Outdoors in an enclosed vehicle, protected from extreme weather.
• Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (e.g., rain, sun, snow, wind).
• Moderate physical activity, including somewhat strenuous daily tasks of a technical nature.
• Manual dexterity to handle items and work with fingers, and ability to navigate minor obstacles at construction sites.
