Foreman
About the role
Sims Metal (Sims) is a global leader in metal recycling, playing an intrinsic role in the circular economy by making resources available for future use. The foreman supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in loading, unloading, storing, transferring, and processing recyclable materials such as scrap metal, plastic, and glass in an outdoor recycling facility.
Responsibilities
- Confers with plant personnel to plan and allocate the use of material handling equipment such as conveyors, cranes, tractors, and trucks.
- Directs workers engaged in keeping records of materials received and used.
- Inspects incoming materials and verifies invoices.
- Enforces safety regulations.
- Interprets job orders to workers and assigns duties.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Performs activities of workers as needed.
- Reports and helps correct all HAZ IDs and near misses.
- Directs customers to safe unloading areas.
Requirements
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 3 to 5 years of applicable industry experience or related industry experience.
- Willingness to work in shop areas and outdoor environments in all types of weather.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
