We're Looking for Our Next Board Treasurer
About the role
State of the Snowpack (SOTS) is a national nonprofit that supports communities in hosting free avalanche awareness and snowpack education events across British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec. As the organization continues to grow, it is seeking a volunteer Board member with a strong accounting or finance background to take over the role of SOTS Board Treasurer.
This is a governance and strategic oversight role, not a day-to-day bookkeeping position. SOTS already works with a professional accountant and has established financial systems in place, with the current Treasurer committed to supporting a smooth transition into the role.
Responsibilities
The new Treasurer will play a key role in strengthening the organization's financial governance, long-term sustainability, and fundraising capacity. SOTS is also preparing to pursue federal registered charitable status, making this a unique opportunity for someone with financial and governance expertise to help shape the organization's next chapter.
Requirements
- Strong accounting or finance background
- Experience in governance and strategic oversight
- Ability to work remotely and participate in Board meetings
- Personal connection to the backcountry is an asset, but not required
- Experience in the outdoor industry is not necessary, but a belief in good governance and helping purpose-driven organizations thrive is essential
Benefits
- Opportunity to shape the organization's next chapter and contribute to its growth and success
- Chance to work with a dedicated team and make a positive impact on mountain communities and avalanche education
- Remote work arrangement, allowing for flexibility and participation from anywhere in Canada
