About the role

Helps in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to vulnerable Veterans in need of skilled nursing care.

Lends direction and a caring attitude to patients.

Aids and monitors assigned residents with activities of daily living based on current nursing standards of practice.

Maintains open communication and information-sharing with staff.

Assists in the presentation of training materials to staff.

Performs nursing assessments of residents as necessary and on a quarterly basis for the completion of the Minimum Data Set.

Assumes responsibility for self-development by staying updated on new techniques and medications.

Holds the staffing book as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently holds a valid RN license from the State of Washington.
  • One year of professional nursing experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience must be relevant to the position.
  • Able to use accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care; personal hygiene and sanitation methods, record keeping, report preparation, infection control procedures and resident rights.
  • Able to assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care. Plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate.
  • Able to earn trust, respect and confidence of residents, coworkers and customers through consistent honesty, forthrightness and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Serve as an effective and positive role model to staff.
  • Long term care experience.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy615.000 Background Checks.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies.

Pay

Updated as of July 1, 2025: This position is eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities. Employees who are assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents, patients, and/or clients and whose duties are required to be performed on location will receive an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplemental basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027. This salary range reflects increases effective July 1st, 2026.
