Waterfront Dockmaster

About the role

This position oversees the daily operations of various waterfront facilities including the Burlington Community Boathouse Marina, Waterfront Park, Perkins Pier Marina, Skate Park, Fishing Pier, and Harbor.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level of customer service in a fast-paced, often stressful environment
• Assign and direct boaters to appropriate slips, both seasonal and transient
• Dock vessels safely into port
• Complete reservations for transient boats on the marina program according to boat length, stay duration, and weather conditions
• Assign moorings to incoming vessels, based on vessel length
• Pump out holding tanks of vessels
• Safeguard and maintain waterfront facilities, including painting, scraping, graffiti removal, and spider web removal
• Maintain docking systems, such as bumper repair, cleat repair, and daily assessment and cleaning
• Remove trash from designated areas
• Clean assigned facilities, including Boathouse, Perkins Pier, Info Booth Building, and select Waterfront areas
• Perform landscaping tasks, such as mowing, trimming, and debris removal
• Support special events as needed
• Inform patrons of park and harbor rules and regulations
• Absorb and distribute parking lot refuse
• Operate City vehicles or personal vehicles for City business, subject to City vehicle insurance requirements

Requirements

• Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts
• Valid Driver’s License
• Valid Boater’s license preferred but not required

Qualifications

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development
• Ability to operate a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid driver's license to Human Resources
