WATER/WASTWATER OPERATIONS MANAGER

About the role

The Water/Wastewater Operations Manager oversees the operations of the City of Farmington's water and wastewater systems, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The role involves managing contractors, maintaining public relations, and overseeing various maintenance and inspection programs.

Responsibilities

• Works under the supervision of the Water/Wastewater Operations, Maintenance, & Environmental Administrator.
• Serves as the primary point of contact for contractors and the public regarding water and wastewater operations.
• Ensures contractors comply with contracts and maintain system components.
• Responds to emergencies and provides field support for project oversight.
• Maintains positive public relations and communicates with the public and media.
• Supports compliance with environmental regulations and manages the Industrial Pretreatment Program.
• Reviews and approves construction drawings and permits.
• Manages the Fire Hydrant Maintenance, Repair, and Replacement program.
• Researches and recommends new technologies and upgrades to improve efficiency.
• Monitors and reports on job performance and costs.
• Initiates and manages operations and maintenance infrastructure projects.

Requirements

This position requires extensive knowledge of water and wastewater utility operations, solid waste management, and regulatory compliance. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field, and a professional engineer certification. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
• Successful completion of the Engineering Intern (EI) exam or current EI certification preferred.
• Five years of experience in water and wastewater utility operations.
• Extensive knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations.
• Working knowledge of personal computers and modeling techniques.
• Ability to operate tools and equipment used in the field.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Skills

Essential skills include excellent customer service, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with civil engineering principles are also important.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $53,347.42 - $82,997.82 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

The Water/Wastewater Operations Manager works Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime as needed.
