About the role
Plans, develops, promotes, monitors, and coordinates the implementation of county-wide recycling and waste diversion programs; performs other related duties as required.
Responsibilities
- Develops comprehensive recycling information, education, and promotion programs.
- Interprets and applies laws and regulations.
- Organizes, plans, coordinates, implements, and monitors projects.
- Works effectively with others.
- Communicates effectively, orally and in writing with various segments of the public.
- Provides technical assistance concerning recycling programs.
- Evaluates operations and implements changes.
- Prepares analytical reports with recommendations.
Requirements
- Training and experience: Combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to a baccalaureate degree with major work in business or public administration, urban planning, civil or environmental engineering, environmental science, social psychology, or a related field, plus 2½ years of professional work experience in the development, supervision, or implementation of recycling, waste reduction, waste recovery, or comparable programs, with some experience in establishing, promoting, organizing, or managing publicity campaigns or programs.
- Licenses: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, as applicable.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of: principles and practices of administration; public relations; principles of human behavior; recycling and waste reduction techniques, laws, and regulations; recycling education and promotion principles; trends and developments in recycling; familiarity with issues, problems, and concerns relating to environmental health; government and community organizations and functions; research methods and techniques; report writing.
- Ability to: plan, develop, and coordinate comprehensive recycling information, education, and promotion programs; interpret and apply laws and regulations; organize, plan, coordinate, implement, and monitor projects; work effectively with others; communicate effectively, orally, and in writing with various segments of the public; provide technical assistance concerning recycling programs; evaluate operations and implement changes; prepare analytical reports with recommendations.
