About the role

Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision.

Essential functions and responsibilities

  • Analyze project requirements and information from alternative studies to develop an accurate report for submittal
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects/tasks
  • Perform design computations
  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
  • Develop or review the construction cost estimate
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and construction cost estimates for advertisement and construction
  • Attend meetings with clients and assist by taking meeting minutes
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and understand how they fit into the project and design scope of work
  • Quality review of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan
  • Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department

Nonessential functions and responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
  • 6-10 years of experience in the field of civil engineering
  • Experience in water and wastewater linear pipeline design required
  • Proficient in discipline specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Qualifications preferred

  • Professional Engineer License (State of Texas or ability to obtain reciprocity within 1 year of hire date)
  • Experience working with local clients at the city, county, and state level
  • Experience with ArcGIS
  • Experience with MS Project

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
  • Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
